Meet Your Panel

Sonia Layne Gartside (she/her):

Sonia is an accomplished global consultant, coach, author and bungee jumper. A cheerleader of people and ideas, she holds certifications as a DEI Specialist, Master Trainer™, Change Manager, and Strategist.

She has been co-creating with corporations for the past 12 years, helping leaders to champion the behaviors that create a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse culture and climate. As well as facilitate more inclusive, compassionate, and effective communication and action around DEI.

Sonia is an International Speaker and author of the book Workplace Anxiety: How to Refuel and Re-Engage. Her undergraduate degree is in Business Management and her master’s degree is in Education. In acknowledgement of her work and innovative practices, Sonia was recognized as the 2021 “Leader of the Year” by the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association’s (PHRA).

Ava Williams (she/her):

Tenisha “Ava” Williams is an experienced diversity, equity, and Inclusion (DEI) consultant, speaker, and facilitator with over a decade of experience with organizational assessment, strategic planning, and equity-centered change management. Ava has led project teams focusing on identifying and addressing inequities for various leaders and executives at over 100 organizations. She is known for introducing frameworks and tools beyond conventional DEI discussions – urging audiences to imagine how their work can build an organizational culture that strives for belonging for all and deliver tangible and measurable outcomes for communities affected by structural inequities.

Ava believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just a box to check…but instead, it’s the opportunity to transform mindsets, cultivate community, and foster a culture of innovation, that in turn maximizes collective impact, promotes profitability, and increases employee retention and satisfaction. She works specifically in and exclusively for, the creation of equitable and inclusive cultures, the mitigation of opportunity gaps, the implementation of system-wide improvements, and the comprehensive management of those results.

 

Veronica Smith (she/they):

Lead Executive & Equitable Scientist

Veronica S. Smith brings over 30 years of experience working with clients to assess strengths and opportunities for improvement within their workplace related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and creating a culture of belonging where everyone can thrive.

Veronica has been immersed in advancing equity, first in the environmentally friendly design and construction industry, then in science, technology, engineering, and math fields, and the non-profit, philanthropic, and government sectors. She became a data scientist in the 2000s and founded data2insight to use data to advance racial, gender, environmental, and social justice.

When it comes to her work, Veronica gets up in the morning to partner with people to do better when it comes to creating organizations and communities where people and the planet can thrive. She is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to the why and how diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI+B) contributes to thriving organizations and communities as well as skilled at facilitating application of the knowledge to achieve the desired impact. What drives Veronica is putting valuable and appropriate tools and practices into the hands of people so they can use them to improve the quality of their lives and achieve the results they truly desire.

Lindsey T. H. Jackson: Often called “America’s DEI Teacher,” Lindsey brings 15+ years of experience and a lifetime of creative facilitation to bear on the work of supporting individuals & organizations in breaking down the barriers that hold them back from their highest potential.

Lindsey is the well-loved host of Unlearning with Lindsey T. H. Jackson. She is leading a more diverse, equitable and inclusive future of work as a DEI Consultant and Lead Executive Officer at the consulting firm LTHJ Global and new DEI tech-enabled platform, Sojourn.
